Tazewell
Tazewell is a small town developed near the headwaters of the Clinch River and is home to the Back of the Dragon Center. It has a welcoming downtown, with various restaurants and shops. It was once known as a booming coal town, attracting thousands of workers to the Pocahontas Coal Fields. Tazewell is as beautiful and proud as ever! Times have changed and Tazewell is now a booming sports car and motorcycle tourism destination. Thousands of people flock to the Back of the Dragon Center and fill the streets of this beautiful and historic town!
Marion
Tazewell and Marion are referred to as “Gateways to the Back of the Dragon”, as the Back of the Dragon connects the two beautiful small towns. Marion is named for American Revolutionary War officer Francis Marion. It is one of the few towns to be designated as an official Virginia Main Street Community and National Main Street Community. The General Francis Marion Hotel has been completely restored and has received an AAA Three-Diamond Rating. The town hosts a monthly ArtWalk with local artists and musicians, held on the second Friday of each month in May through December.
